- Restoration
Dental Hygiene classes are provided for third grade classes.
Heath Star II, a mobile dental van, provides dental services at 10 schools. This program is designed to provide dental care to students who do not have dental insurance and/or a dentist. HealthStar II is a dentist office on wheels. This van travels around the school district providing on site dental exam, cleanings, & restorations (filling cavities). Written parental permission and a comprehensive health history is required. Students who do not have a dentist are eligible. The van is staffed by dentists, dental hygienist & a dental assistant.
Mobile Health Van - LHS, FHS, Northeast, and Broughal
HealthStar I is a doctor's office on wheels. HealthStar I visits Liberty, Freedom, Northeast, and Broughal. Student are seen on the van with written parental consent, for ill and well visits by appointment established through the school nurse's office. Consents are mailed home in August. Extra consents are available in the nurses offices. This service is not intended to replace student's private health care provider. Students who do not have a private health care provider (doctor or clinic) are encouraged to complete a consent. The van is staffed by doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses.
Vision Initiative
A grant from the Pearle Vision Foundation makes vision exams & eye glasses a reality for many students of the Bethlehem Area School District. Other vouchers are available through partnerships NASN.
Students who can not afford eye exams may be eligible for a voucher. This voucher is then redeemed for an eye exam & glasses.
Parents who feel their child has a vision concern should contact their school nurse.
Adopt-a-School
A new way to provide services and coordinate care to improve student learning, academic success and improve health.
The Bethlehem Area School District has joined a new initiative with the Bethlehem Partnership for a Healthy Community and St. Luke's Health Network called Adopt-a-School. This initiative reviews and collects data on several health and learning factors. At the same time the initiative will review the many programs currently in use and programs that are available to our schools and students.
The six schools include: Liberty High School, Broughal Middle School, Marvine, William Penn, Fountain Hill, and Donegan Elementary Schools. These schools were selected based on current community school status, need and other factors that will help develop this initiative for all Bethlehem Area schools.
